Eddy Chan (also known as Dr. Edmund Chan)[2] is the new tech expert for the Ghostbusters and assists with tasks such as equipment upgrades in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
History[]
Eddy Chan was hired by Winston Zeddemore to run the laboratory at Ghostbusters headquarters and head research and development with full technological oversight. He began working on a multitude of upgrades to add to components of the Proton Packs, Particle Thrower, P.K.E. Meter, and Traps. Eddy was subjected to monthly employee reviews and his every movement was scrutinized. He was unaware he was the only one monitored like that.[3][4] On an orientation day, Winston hailed Eddy on the Radio and asked if he was on the channel. Eddy pointed out it was the only channel he gave him access to. Winston quipped it was for good reason then informed him they had a new recruit that needed some pointers with the P.K.E. Meter. Eddy claimed he was a little busy, he was close to finally cracking what that smell in the lab was. He found something containing a cheese product in a tiny gap between the radiator and the wall. Winston repeated he wanted Eddy to walk the trainee through it. Eddy conceded and asked for the trainee to hurry to the lab so he could return to more meaningful work. Eddy gave the trainee a quick tutorial on the meter and explained what the patterns meant and how the side arms reacted to paranormal signals. He mused there was a a chance the trainee would survive the first mission. Eddy then tested the trainee with finding three phantom signals in the Firehouse: in the garage bay, on the front desk, and in the office on the first floor. Eddy was satisfied and told the trainee to come up to the lab so he could give the meter a quick once over.
Eddy tinkered with a Trap when the trainee walked into the lab. Eddy greeted them then the Trap blew up. Eddy asked for the meter. The trainee thought the lab was wild. Eddy stipulated jungles were wild from chaotic flora growing in all directions with reckless abandon while everything in the lab is exactly as he intended it to be, and if they forgot, they were as good as a gazelle in a lion's den. Eddy assumed the trainee was wondering why they were not using the more advanced Giga meters. He called it the never ending struggle between science and... budget constraints. Eddy decided the meter was calibrated and ready to go. He realized that probably no one introduced him and shouted for Catt on the radio. Catt replied she absolutely did not. Eddy introduced himself. The trainee told him it was nice to meet him. Eddy refrained from saying "likewise" since he knew nothing about the trainee then explained his role at headquarters. He advised the trainee not to talk to anyone else but him about the equipment. He then hinted he was working on upgrades to the equipment like enhanced power coils and friction-less ionizers. The klaxon alarm rang and Catt announced there was a job. Eddy stated he was not wishing the trainee luck because he did not believe in logical fallacies.
After Winston was possessed by Nameless, Catt cut him off on the first floor with a Proton Pack strapped on. Eddy picks up a potted plant to use as a shield. Catt "convinced" him to release Winston but he realized he was stuck in his body and needed assistance. Catt had Eddy tie him to an office chair and took him up to the lab for further analysis. Eddy stated the obvious, Nameless was in complete control of Winston, mentally and physically. He took some solace that the entity was much weaker than Zuul and was more like the possessors the Ghostbusters usually encounter. Catt ordered Eddy to start running tests and use his brain to find a solve. Eddy made a breakthrough and readied the Kinetic Endothermic Actuator. He was miffed Catt sent the trainee to check on him. Nameless was eager to continue and noted it was starting to stink in the lab. Eddy informed Nameless the smell was him. Nameless then noted there was someone was oozing Ectoplasm all over the floor. Eddy informed him that was also his doing. He activated the Actuator. Winston seemed back to normal but Eddy checked with his P.K.E. Meter and confirmed Nameless was still in his body. Nameless unleashed a green energy blast at the Actuator and opened a Rift. Ray came on the radio and told Eddy not to exorcise Nameless. Catt yelled up from the first floor demanding to know what happened. Nameless taunted Eddy and teased he was in trouble. Eddy told him to shut up and asked the trainee to go down and stall Catt.
Eddy managed to stabilize the Rift with a Vortex Conduit. Everyone is gathered up at the lab. Eddy held a coffee mug up to it and proclaimed it was stable. The mug shattered. Eddy admitted it was not the best example but for people it should be fine. He believed it was the key to freeing Winston and someone had to go through it. He discounted Ray since he was a founder, Catt because she was far too important to operations, and himself since he was the brightest scientific mind of his generation. The trainee realized he was the only choice and went through the Rift. Eddy was surprised the trainee returned but was not too impressed when the leather strap to Tobin's Spirit Guide was presented as the solution. On the radio, Ray explained it was a Binding Relic and would work if it was incorporated into the Actuator. Eddy was game to try again. Eddy tied the strap around an old pickle jar and integrated it into the device. It worked and Nameless was extracted and confined in the jar. Eddy decided Nameless needed constant observation and took the jar with him wherever he went.
Nameless began to cause power issues in the Firehouse from lights flickering off to static interference and electromagnetic pulses. Eddy determined some of his psychokinetic energy was not confined to the jar. Catt wanted to know what that meant. Nameless declared it meant he was fascinating and they were stuck with him. Eddy tapped on the jar lid and it caused discomfort to Nameless. Power was restored. Eddy was concerned with his lab's power supply being tampered with while he worked on a device to send him away forever. Winston suggested shifting work to the sub-basement. Before the team of Ghostbusters departed for the Whitestone Museum to capture Samhain, Eddy stopped one of the rookies at the Gear Cart. Eddy stated he worked in absolutes and scientific reality, but as much as it killed him to say it, he revealed he had a hunch the Binding Relic would come of use. He warned the rookie he would deny having said it. He wished the rookie good luck then was disgusted with himself. He yelled at the rookie to go and never speak of the conversation. After Samhain was trapped, Eddy was stern with rookie while the others congratulated them and vowed it would be even tougher working as a fully-fledged Ghostbuster.
Description[]
Taken from the Training Manual
Eddy is an obsessive scientist. He loves experimenting, coming up with new hypotheses, and tinkering with old gear. While his cadence is very deadpan and his demeanor can come off a little abrasive, this steams from his own shyness. He's used to most people not caring about his interests and is often socially defensive, but behind that icy exterior is a charming eccentric! Show Eddy that you're as passionate about obscure science as he is and he'll become an excitable chatterbox. Still, he's most comfortable dealing with the quantifiable realm and will never be the life of the party.
Personality[]
Eddy is is bit prickly at first, but his eccentric nature makes him endearing to a degree. He thinks he is the greatest scientific genius of his generation.[5][6]
Trivia[]
- After the Act 8 Scene 3 cinematic, if the player talks to Eddy in the sub-basement, he will admit he is ready for a workplace upgrade so he can focus all of his efforts on research.[7]
