The Field Museum of Natural History is one of the largest natural history museums in the world. It is reputed for its educational and research programs, diverse exhibits, having over 24 million specimens, and field expeditions.
In the mid-1990s, the Field Museum decided to exhibit a selection of Gozerian artifacts recently discovered. Ilyssa Selwyn was hired to authenticate the artifacts before the "World of Gozer" exhibit debuted to the public. Since Chicago was far away from anything related to Ivo Shandor, Ilyssa agreed to a contract from the Board of Trustees. As a precaution, a stipulation was included that protected her from any damages caused by supernatural means. In turn, Selwyn brought in the Chicago Ghostbusters to also examine the artifacts. Unknown to them, Tiamat was present and a Gozerian artifact was activated. The exhibit featuring The Ghost and The Darkness was disturbed. The two lions were combined into a single entity and animated. While Ron Alexander held off the Man-Eaters, Rookie and Selwyn located the active artifact and destroyed it.
