City Water Tunnel No. 3 [1] is the largest capital construction project in New York City history intended to provide the city its third connection to its upstate water supply.

History[]

Now hundreds of feet or sixty stories below Manhattan, the city tunnel project continued on. A worker named Murdock the Miner noticed an opening in a wall illuminated with an orange glow. He ventured inside and found a man made chamber. He radioed his chief. The chief wanted to call in the discovery but Murdock noticed a small chest on a pedestal and reckoned it was worth something. He picked it up and Connla was released. The Ghostbusters were called into investigate. Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman, Winston Zeddemore, and Egon Spengler took the elevator down. Egon didn't think it was the ghost of an accident victim based on the strong readings. They found the cavern. Egon got an extraordinarily high P.K.E. signature off the chest and wanted to run tests on it. Peter noticed Connla in a seated position hovering above them. Ray wanted to try and communicate with it rather than open fire and risk causing a cave-in. Ray introduced himself then asked the ghost if it was lucid, if it knew how long it was around, and how it first came to arrive at the location. Peter added why its head looked like a pumpkin. Connla remarked there was power in a name and warned Ray about giving his so freely because it could be used to destroy him. Winston took that as a threat and pulled out his Proton Pistol. Connla denied it was a threat, yet, then teleported away. Egon picked up a spike. Tons of Bat Spectral Constructs poured out of the chamber. They ran for the elevator but the ghosts caught up and flew up, sliming them in the process. Egon told the workers the P.K.E. readings dropped but they should wait a day to resume work. He informed them a P.K.E. alarm would be installed for their safety. One worked cited their schedule. Peter reckoned they were unionized and told them to take a day.

Trivia[]

  • On page 3 of Ghostbusters Annual 2018, Ray mentions there were plenty of accidents in the Water Tunnel. Historically, there have been 24 construction-related deaths in Water Tunnel No. 3 but none since 1997.
  • On page 8 of Annual 2018, the portly worker insists they have a schedule to keep. In reality, the tunnel started work in 1997 and is slated to finish in 2020.
