Ghostbusters x Men In Black: Ecto-Terrestrial Invasion (formerly known as Men In Black/Ghostbusters: Ecto-terrestrial Invasion) is a miniatures board game developed by IDW Games, based on the classic Ghostbusters and Men In Black franchises. Game illustrations were done by Derek Laufman, and game pieces sculpted by Ninja Division. It was released on October 6, 2021.
Synopsis[]
The Ghostbusters' latest invention is nearly ready, but there’s trouble brewing! The space pirate Zorg has crashed his ship into the Ghostbusters’ headquarters, stealing psychokinetic energy and transforming his crew into deadly Ecto-Terrestrials.
By themselves, the Ghostbusters stand no chance against these invaders... but hope is not lost! The Men In Black have joined forces with them to repel the new threat!
1 to 4 players each control a team of one Ghostbuster and one MIB agent to defend New York City. Trap Ecto-Terrestrials and complete scenarios while using the latest weaponry & gadgets! All teams must work together to defeat the alien forces, but only one team can be the best. Do you have the mettle to defeat the machinations of Zorg and his minions?
As players bust Ecto-Terrestrials and complete objectives, hot sheet cards will be drawn. Hot sheets will always contain a game altering event and an Ecto-Terrestrial icon. Each time an Ecto-Terrestrial icon is revealed, a corresponding track is filled. If any of the tracks become full, a ship piece must be removed from the firehouse. A multi-chamber dice tower, the firehouse has been riddled with ship pieces from the Ecto-Terrestrial's crash landing. When a piece is pulled, any number of dice might spill out, indicating how many Ecto-Terrestrials and of which type will spawn around the map.[2]

Development[]
On October 30, 2018, IDW issued an announcement a multi-year agreement between IDW Games and Sony Pictures Consumer Products to develop a series of tabletop games for both Men in Black and Ghostbusters franchises including, for the first time, a crossover miniatures board game featuring both Men In Black and Ghostbusters in conjunction with new Men In Black movie set for June 2019 and Ghostbusters celebrating its 35th Anniversary in June 2019. "Men In Black/Ghostbusters: Ecto-terrestrial Invasion" will be a miniatures loaded board game featuring Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore, Agent J, Agent K, Agent L and Zed. Artwork is by Derek Laufman. Game design is by Panda Cult Games. The game is a a blend of fast action dice-chucking and take-that card play. The sculpted miniatures will be done by Ninja Division. It will release in late-Fall 2019. Additional stand-alone games for each franchise are also currently in development and also slated for release in 2019.[3]

On March 26, 2019, Hector Moran reveals he was approached to work on the game at the end of 2018. He also revealed three of the villains.[7]

On June 3, 2020, IDW Games stated there will be more coverage starting in September/October.[14]
On March 16, 2021, IDW Games issued a new press release revealing the game will release in the fall with a slightly new name "Ghostbusters x Men In Black: Ecto-Terrestrial Invasion" and pre-orders take place between March 15 and April 2 through BackerKit. A story-heavy campaign book was written by Erik Burnham and throughout the game, players can choose a series of branch points to craft a new storyline each time they play. Jack Lawrence, Chris Fenoglio, Leonardo Ito, Luis Antonio Delgado, and Lanza Studio were hired to create over 100 pieces of interior card and tile art. Those who preorder will be given a number of exclusive bonuses, which will be revealed over the course of the preorder window. During the preorder initiative, IDW Games will release a prequel story, written by Erik Burnham, that details the arrival and creation of the ecto-terrestrials, and the team-up between the Ghostbusters and Men in Black. This story content will be released piece by piece via IDW Games’ social media channels. New look at box, cards, sculpts, and set pieces included.[15] Page one of the prequel story was posted.[16]
