Product Summary:
Limit of 5 per customer.
Have there been any recent reports of odd occurrences in your neighborhood? No, not the guy a few houses down that likes to mow his lawn at 4 a.m., wearing a bathrobe and a pair of tube socks pulled up to his knees. That's just your neighbor, who falls more into the category of something weird that don't look good. Although... who mows a pattern like that into their lawn? Maybe he's trying to open a portal to the other side, right there in his front yard? Okay, on second thought, you should probably keep a closer eye on him. You may very well need to call in the professionals: the Ghostbusters.
Better yet, you could suit up yourself and take matters into your own hands, and we've got exactly what you need to do it!

Production Description:
"WE GOT ONE!"
Look, we get it, not everyone is lucky enough to have an eccentric, genius grandfather who left us a fully functional albeit unlicensed nuclear accelerator. Most people just get slacks and socks. It was with this understanding that we decided to cook up something special. We're professionals here at the Hasbro Pulse HasLab, and we wouldn't waste a second of this amazing fanbase’s time with anything less than the ultimate ghost bustin’ adult collectible roleplay item. Introducing the first-ever Ghostbusters HasLab project: the Plasma Series Spengler's Proton Pack! Heat 'em up, indeed!
If we're being honest—and it sure smells like it—most of us have been waiting for this moment to arrive since way back in 1984, when we were introduced to our true calling: strapping into a Proton Pack and saving the world from every spirit, spectre, ghoul, and ghost looking to get up to some supernatural shenanigans and haunting hijinks.
As fellow faux scientists (and no doubt a smattering of real ones!), you know the importance of funding paranormal research and how it can help make the world a safer, less scary place. Here’s what we'll need to make this paranormal project a reality (and don't worry, we kept Venkman out of the money decisions):

  • Fan funding for this iconic Ghostbusters 1:1-scale roleplay item ($399)
    • 7,000 backers to answer the call and officially fund the project
    • 9,000 backers to unlock the Class I Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE CLASSIC BUNDLE
    • 11,000 backers to unlock the Class II Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE BUNDLE
    • 13,000 backers to unlock the Class III Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE SPENGLER SPECIAL
    • 15,000 backers to unlock the Class IV Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE SUPERNATURAL STAND

You are our eerie investors, our phantom financiers, our bloodcurdling backers, and we need your support for our research and to fund this HasLab today!

"WE HAD THE TOOLS; WE HAD THE TALENT!"
We love this franchise! We're excited to be a part of it! And we know in our hearts that Ghostbusters fans feel the same. The Ghostbusters fandom is an extraordinary team, suiting up for action and adventure every day since day one. That's why when we were determining exactly what we should offer in this Ghostbusters HasLab project, we knew it absolutely had to be the Proton Pack—and not just any old Proton Pack, but Egon Spengler's Proton Pack! Working directly with our partners at Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Ghost Corps, our talented designers were provided with everything they'd need to create a movie-inspired, 1:1-scale Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler's Proton Pack.
We are more than just toymakers here. We're fans. That’s why we understand the seriousness of getting this pack just right—down to the very last nut and bolt—to offer you something incredible to add to your collection while celebrating the next chapter in the Ghostbusters universe.

"THERE'S SOMETHING YOU DON'T SEE EVERY DAY."
Hang onto your flight suits because we're about to blow you away. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler's Proton Pack is here, and this first-ever, full-scale, mass-manufactured beauty has it all!

    • Out-of-this-world tech features lights, sounds, AND a motor for active roleplay and re-creating iconic scenes!
    • Two modes of play include lights and sounds from both the 1984 classic film Ghostbusters and the upcoming 2021 Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie. Did we use supernatural sorcery? Nope, we just included a switch!
    • Modular and lightweight, this scientific wonder is the closest you can get to strapping a real nuclear particle accelerator to your back (and much less dangerous)!
    • Have we mentioned that this Proton Pack is compatible with the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler's Neutrona Wand (sold separately)? Because it is! The Proton Pack features a metal V-hook bracket that connects to the metal V-hook bracket on the bottom of the Neutrona Wand. Level up your cosplay game by stowing your wand on your pack when you’re not actively bustin' ghosts!
    • Scary good screen-accurate details include the booster, power cell injectors, bumper, shock mount, and more! Oh, and yeah, you can open the cyclotron and explore its inner workings for the very first time. Seriously, if you don't fund this Ghostbusters HasLab project it may be a decision that haunts you forever!
    • The Plasma Series Spengler's Proton Pack was designed to be compatible with the ALICE system LC-1 Field Pack Frame and includes connection hardware.[Note 1]

"MAYBE IT'S THE APOCALYPSE."
How could it not be the apocalypse when this seems way too good to be true? This isn't any old pack, you see. This is the Proton Pack of your aspirational childhood dreams! Still, that just wasn't enough for us, not for the very first Ghostbusters HasLab project. We couldn't help ourselves. We were compelled to go above and beyond. Hey, no job is too big, right? That’s why we've decided to offer a total of 4 classifications of unlocks.
This Proton Pack just got red hot.

Development[]

On October 22, 2021, Hasbro Pulse teased a October 27 announcement for a full-size replica Proton Pack from HasLab.[1]

On October 23, 2021, Hasbro Pulse teased the pack further with lights and sound.[2]

On October 27, 2021, a summary of the live stream and press release was posted, photos, including a $399.99 price, description of features, stretch goals, and special green ectoplasm goo attachment goal for the first 48 hours of crowdfunding. It was also confirmed the v-hook was compatible with the Hasbro Ghostbusters Plasma Series: Spengler’s Neutrona Wand.[3] The pack was scanned from the Afterlife movie's hero prop and there are two modes of play include lights and sounds from the 1984 and 2021 movies.[4]

On October 28, 2021, it was revealed orders were being taken through Zavvi for international customers.[5]

On October 31, 2021, Hasbro Pulse revealed a new photo showing the Spengler's Neutrona Wand connected to the Spengler's Proton Pack with a hose.[6] Bill Rawley confirmed the hose that will be included with the Class 1 stretch goal will have its own connector to replace the battery box in the existing Plasma Series Spengler's Neutrona Wand and the power from the pack will then power the wand, too. The team is working on synching the lights and sounds but it is very difficult so far. Rawley and his engineer are currently trying to figure out making easy mounting for people who wish to add an Alice frame and it might end up being a clamp system. The green goo ectoplasm attachment will be flexible and will have a pin and lock into hole system that allows it to be wrapped wherever on the pack people want. In the preview photo, only the ectoplasm attachment was photoshopped. For ethical reasons, the Alice frame was not included. Certain manufacturers were not up to Hasbro's standards and the decision was not to work with them. It had nothing to do with cost reductions or a decision that it wasn't needed. In it's place, the pack will have a strap system that can be later removed should an Alice frame be added. No modding will have to done to make the Plasma Series Spengler's Neutrona Wand work with the Spengler's Proton Pack. It will be plug and play. The ribbon cable has been a big discussion point within the development team and they are working on trying to match colors as best as they can. The holes on the back of the pack are not final. The team has pushed for the Spengler's Proton Pack for over a year and the 2023 ship date was chosen to account for all the current unknowns about shipping. The Proton Pack is 1:1 to the Afterlife pack prop. The team scanned the prop. The light and sounds between 1984 and 2021 mode will be change but flicking a metal internal switch in the cyclotron. The red light pattern and sound effects will be different in each mode. Pieces on the pack will be removable for those that want to mod it to look like the original pack. The team is looking into using three D batteries to power the pack. The crank generator will be a volume control if a person wanted to do lights only and/or save power. The speaker is on top of the pack near the back of the person's head when they wear it.[7]

On November 5, 2021, the Spengler's Proton Pack was funded. Through a new series referred to as "Pack Facts," it was confirmed the pack would be compatible with the ALICE system LC-1 Field Pack Frame and will include connection hardware.[8] The first stretch goal was also previewed. It was confirmed the Class 1 Classic Bundle includes the connection hose to connect the Spengler's Neutrona Wand and brushed-metal, high quality classic decals to convert your Proton Pack to the 1984 style.[9]

On November 20, 2021, the first stretch goal was unlocked.[10]

On November 22, 2021, Adam Savage inspected the prototype. It was shown how the cyclotron could be removed. A depressurizing sound is emitted. The two switches in the inside that controls vibration of the internal off-set motor and which movie sounds and lights play. Taking off the ribbon cable triggers the same sound used when the Containment Unit was shut down in the first movie. A secret compartment by the bar graph was revealed where things like two Mini-Pufts can be stored. The screw is a button you push to open the compartment. A switch that was on the movie prop that was initially the on switch was also kept on this pack as an open switch for the owner to mod and add their own function. The prototype hose connector was shown and demonstrated how to connect it to a Spengler's Neutrona Wand. The team is aiming for the pack to weigh 15 pounds.[11] Hasbro Pulse released details and images for the second stretch goal and released a reveal video detailing the third and fourth stretch goals. The CRT emitters will be removable. The Mini-Puft figures in the stretch goal will have an exclusive toasted deco. The final version of the marshmallow goo attachment will be flexible. Four model artists worked on the prototype in-house to make it weathered looking.[12][13] Pack Fact 03 was also posted on the product page, showing the dimensions of the pack to be a width of 14.57 inches and a height of 26.75 inches.[14] It has a depth of 9.57 inches.[15]

On November 26, 2021, the second stretch goal was unlocked.

On December 5, 2021, the third stretch goal was unlocked.

On December 10, 2021, the fourth and final stretch goal was unlocked. Hasbro Pulse revealed a protoype of the box the Proton Pack will be packaged in. It was also reiterated the crowdfunding will be open until December 12 at 11:59 pm EST.[16]

On June 8, 2022, at Ghostbusters Day's Ecto Fest, Jenny Whitlock revealed photos from the current prototype and announced it weighs only 15 pounds, is still using metal parts, not all the final details are locked, and the Egon's journal had been expanded from 16 to 32 pages and includes sketches, designs, newspaper clippings, and overall content spanning 1984-1989 and beyond. Haslab later posted a blog with more photos of the prototype and a 1:34 teaser video. At no charge are 5 metal C-clamps for collectors to use to secure the Proton Pack to an ALICE System LC-1 Field Pack Frame. The padded straps boast a maximum circumference of 46 inches and a minimum circumference of 28 inches at the shoulders, while the waist has a maximum circumference of 60 inches and a minimum circumference of 24 inches (although, it can go down as small as 13 inches, if necessary). When cosplayers turn off their Proton Packs, there will be a 5-minute window in which they can power their Packs back up with their Plasma Series Spengler's Neutrona Wands. The stand legs' design was tweaked. More on the journal was revealed it spans before Egon became a Ghostbuster to what he was up to in Summerville. It was also have his musings, promo fliers, never-before-seen equipment, and some carefully placed Easter eggs. Hasbro worked closely with Sony Consumer and Ghost Corps on it.[17]

On September 30, 2022, a sample of the shipping box and packaging was seen in Ghost Corps in the past week.[18]

On October 27, 2022, a preview was included about 28 minutes into the Hasbro Pulse Premium Livestream and ended around 40:18. A unboxing was first. The top includes a piece based on the Farmhouse floor puzzle: pull a piece and a compartment opens. Inside is a white box holding the 4 marshmallow residue attachment pieces and a box modeled on the Trap containing the 3 exclusive Mini-Pufts and switchable heads. Also packaged at the top is a white envelope holding the Egon's journal, schematic, and stickers. Under the top layer is the Proton Pack itself then under it is a box with all the accessory items like the stand, hose, and connections. Jarrett mentioned the pack will be more protected when shipped to backers then spoke with Sam who wrote the Egon's Journal bonus item. They were given writing samples of the late Harold Ramis by Ghost Corps to help with writing it from Egon's point of view. Two pages were previewed. The pack features then demonstrated: turning on the pack, volume control, how to remove the bumper and cyclotron cover to access the rumbling and sound switches, the ribbon cable can be disconnected to trigger a unique shutdown sound effect, connecting the pack to the Egon's Neutrona Wand, the cable can only connect one way to the pack, and demonstrating how the wand can be used to turn the pack on and off.[19]

On December 12, 2022, backers received an email reading, "Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler's Proton Pack Backers! The time is ALMOST here!! Our teams are prepping to start shipping the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler's Proton Pack to all of you. Before we do that, we want to make sure we have the correct shipping address listed on your order and give you a chance to make any necessary changes before it heads your way. You have until the end of the day on Sunday, January 1, 2023 to update your shipping address through Hasbro Pulse. Incorrect shipping information could impact the receipt of your item. Don't let it happen to you!"[20]

On December 20, 2022, it was reported the first of the packs arrived in Dublin through a Zavvi pre-order purchase.[21]

On December 28, 2022, it was reported there is a Mini-Puft alternate sound hidden in in the emergency sequence when the ribbon cable is removed.[22]

On December 29, 2022, a third shipping notice was sent to backers.[23]

On January 3, 2023, it was reported U.S. backers' order status was changed from "Unfulfilled" to "In progress."[24]

On January 5, 2023, it was reported U.S. backers' orders were being shipped by FedEx from a Hasbro distribution facility in Chino, California.[25]

On January 9, 2023, it was reported U.S. backers' orders were beginning to be shipped by FedEx from Hasbro distribution facilities in Chino, California and Elwood, Illinois with delivery estimates for the end of the week. The slime attachment was also noted to be coming in a separate package.[26]

On January 10, 2023, it was reported some customers who ordered the pack through Zavvi received a notice their order shipment was delayed to April 10, 2023. Zavvi did promise to launch an investigation with the supplier to determine the cause of the delay and would take action to prevent it from happening again.[27]

On September 22, 2023, a limited restock of the Proton Packs were sold at the Big Bad Toy Store for $649.[28]

On December 18, 2023, a limited restock of the Proton Pack was made available to Hasbro Pulse Premium members at 12 pm Eastern as part of a Hasbro Vault event but the packs quickly sold out.[29]

The extractor also had a secondary function to extract the negative energy or entity then a built-in containment canister would temporarily house the entity but it had to be transferred within 24 hours to a Trap or the Containment Unit. 7. HasLab Proton Pack Modders Facebook Bill Rawley reply 10/31/2021 Bill Rawley says: "The hose that will included with the Class 1 unlock at 9k backers WILL have its own connector to replace the battery box in the existing Plasma Series Spengler wand. The power from the pack WILL now power your wand!...we are trying to make that happen but it is very difficult. It's on our wish list though...my engineer and I are literally figuring that out this week. We are trying to avoid any heavy modifications for not-so-handy folks. It may end up being a clamp system...the models are actually wearing the packs in the photos. The only photoshopping that was done was on the slime pieces. Their model shop printed the pieces out from the team's CAD sculpts in a hard material that does not flex. The real slime will be flexible and has a pin and lock into hole system to wrap around tubes on the pack to let the fans place the slime where they want...the team was not ethically able to provide an Alice frame with our proton pack. Believe me, we tried. It was not a cost reduction or anyone on the team deciding we didn't need it. We were just not able to include one for a number of reasons. The team has this strap system to make the pack wearable Out of box but then it IS removable. You can order an Alice frame or use one you already have to attach it to our final pack...let's just say, some manufacturer's of certain items may not be up to Hasbro standards and so we can not work with those factories...there is no cracking open or modding needed to have the hose work with the wand. Plug and play!..the ribbon cable is a BIG conversation within the dev team. We are working on options to match the actual Afterlife prop as best as we can. There's a lot of color on that cable and color (paint) plus the washes (paint washes) all cost money. I can promise that I will be trying. To match colors as best as I can for our initial models and then following up as they are produced to make sure the production pieces match our initial models. It's basically going to be what I do for a lot of 2022...those holes are not final. We are still working through the connection and hole placementz...the team has been pushing for this for over a year. The 2023 date is because of all the unknowns about shipping. The production team is scrambling to get everything prepped for production so that the fans do nat have to wait any longer than they have to...this pack is exactly the size of the Afterlife prop. We scanned it and it is one to one. This is the "correct" size. It's the same size as the one in the trailer (not the pack on the Ecto-1). The models we had wear this pack are different heights and sizes. It's 1:1...With a simple flick of a metal internal switch (in the cyclotron) you can change the electronics from 84 to Afterlife. The red light pattern and sound effects are different in each mode...those golden wire pieces are a separate piece and should be able to be removed...I think this group will be able to easily convert this pack to an 84 pack...sorry, we are looking at 3 D batteries at the moment...I'm giving away more of the "details" I was speaking of, but I made the crank generator on the top into a volume control. So you can turn that all the way down for lights only and to save some juice. There's more though...I put the speaker in the top of the packs so the wearer (you guys) gets the bulk of the sound playing Right behind your heads as you wear it!"
