Plot[]
Louis Tully emerged from the southern part of Central Park at the Merchant's Gate and entered Columbus Circle. Louis stated he was the Keymaster. A woman shrieked "Ah!" A man held her as Louis scampered by. A young couple left some money for the street performers at the U.S.S. Maine National Monument. One man danced as the others played their instruments. Louis stated "The Destructor" was coming then also called it "The Traveler" and "The Destroyer." He paused near the performers and looked around. A horse was heard nearby. Louis perked up and mistook the horse for The Gatekeeper. Louis approached a white horse attached to a coach and started talking to it. He introduced himself as Vinz Clortho, Keymaster of Gozer, Volguus Zildrohar, Lord of the Sebouillia. He asked the horse if it was the Gatekeeper. The Coachman got Louis' attention and remarked the horse pulled the wagon but he made the deals. He asked Louis if he wanted a ride. Louis's eyes flared red. He was clearly possessed by Vinz Clortho. The coachman was surprised. The horse turned and looked at Louis. His eyes returned to normal. Louis leaned in closer to the horse and told it to wait for the sign then all prisoners will be released. Louis ran off, plowing right through a woman's bags as she looked in a trash can. She yelled at him. Louis yelled humanity will perish in flame. He yelled for the Gatekeeper. The coachman remarked what an asshole he was.
A paddy wagon was parked outside the Firehouse. A police sergeant knocked on the front door of the Firehouse. Janine Melnitz answered the door. She asked him if he was dropping off or picking up. The sergeant answered he was dropping off. She told him to wait just a moment. Janine closed the inner door. A short time later, Egon Spengler came outside with Janine. The sergeant asked Egon if he was a Ghostbuster. Egon confirmed he was. The sergeant explained they picked up a perp but they had no idea what to do with him because Bellevue Hospital refused him and he was concerned about placing him in the lock-up. He knew about the Ghostbusters and figured they should confer with them. Egon agreed to weigh in. They walked over to the rear of the paddy wagon. Louis was in the van in a straight jacket. Louis wearily asked Egon if he was the Gatekeeper. Egon scanned Louis with the P.K.E. Meter and watched as the readings quickly surged. Egon turned it off and turned to the sergeant and suggested they better bring him into the Firehouse. The sergeant nodded. Janine wrapped around one of his arms as they walked back to the Firehouse. The officer inside and the sergeant lifted Louis, as he stood in place, out of the van. Janine told Egon he was so kind to take care of that man and called him a real humanitarian. Egon remarked he did not think Louis was human. Janine turned her head to look at Louis as they entered the Firehouse.
Egon interviewed Louis on the second floor. Louis was hooked up to Aura-Video Analyzer. The helmet he wore was once a normal colander. The screen displayed the image of a Terror Dog. Egon stared at the screen and turned it off. He asked Louis what he said his name was. Louis replied he was Vinz Clortho, Keymaster of Gozer. Janine looked at Louis's wallet and told Egon his name was Louis Tully and he lived on Central Park West. Janine held the wallet out to Egon. He took it and looked at it. Louis mimicked Egon and also extended his arm to take it. Janine offered Louis some coffee. Louis asked Egon if he did. Egon told him, "Yes, have some." Louis repeated what Egon said. Janine made a face and walked over to the kitchen area. Egon placed the wallet in a coat pocket and sat down. There was a lot of drinks and food on the dining table. A Wise Chips bag, a Perrier bottle, and a TaB can. Egon recalled Vinz talked about waiting for a sign and asked him what the sign was. Louis answered it was the coming of Gozer in one of the pre-chosen forms. He reminisced about some of Gozer's past conquests. There was the Rectification of the Vuldronaii, when the Traveler came as a large and moving Torb. Egon looked towards Janine. He also recalled during the Third Reconciliation of the Last of the Meketrex Supplicants, they chose a new form for him, that of a giant Sloar. Janine looked back at Egon. Vinz chuckled at the thought of how many Shubs and Zulls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day. On the counter were boxes of Sunshine Hi-Ho crackers, Uncle Ben's, and Lays Potato Chips, Honey Oat cereal, and Multi Grain cereal at the end. More articles about the Ghostbusters were posted all around. Janine called Egon and gestured him to come over. The Cheez Its box was on the table near Egon. Egon excused himself and walked over to Janine. She told him there was something very strange about Louis. Louis sniffed a clear jar of popcorn as he rotated it. Janine admitted she was usually very psychic, and she had a terrible feeling that something awful was going to happen to Egon. Louis wiped his left cheek with a pizza slice. Janine revealed she believed he was going to die. She went into Egon's arms. He looked up and placed his right arm around her.
The phone rang. Louis jumped and looked around. Egon quickly picked up the phone. Louis picked up the base of the phone. Egon took it from him. The call was from Peter. Egon thanked Louis for his help. Peter announced he had some news from the world of Gozer. Dana was asleep on her bed but panting hard. Egon asked Peter what it was. Drawers were opened and clothes were all over the place. Peter informed Egon he was with Dana and Gozer made some moves on his would-be girlfriend. Egon asked how she was doing. Peter quipped he thought they could get her a guest shot on Wild Kingdom then revealed he just whacked her up with about 300 cc's of Thorazine. Peter was sitting on the floor of Dana's bedroom. His coat jacket was off and his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows. Peter noted she was saying she was the Gatekeeper and asked Egon if that made any sense to him. Egon revealed he just met the Keymaster. Louis lifted up the coffee pot. To the left was a small Folgers Coffee jar. Louis took a drink. Peter thought that was wonderful and they should get them together. Louis with his mouth full, made an odd but cheery face at them. Janine was now sitting next to Egon. Egon thought that would be extraordinarily dangerous. Peter relented and advised Egon to hold onto the Keymaster and he would head back to the Firehouse. Egon liked the idea and placed the phone back on the receiver. Louis walked over and gave Egon a frying pan. Egon thanked him then turned to Janine and stressed they needed to find Ray and get him back immediately. Louis picked up a lamp and gave it to Egon. Peter held Dana's left wrist and checked her pulse. Peter spoke to Dana like she was listening and declared he had to go to work. He asked her to stay in bed until he came back then kissed her left shoulder.
The Ecto-1 drove through the FDR Drive Service Road East/Marginal Road, between Avenue C Loop/E. 18th Street & East 20th Street. Winston was driving. Ray was studying blueprints in the front passenger seat. Both were smoking. Winston asked Ray if he believed in God. Ray replied that he never met Him. Winston revealed that he believed in Him and he loved Jesus' style. Ray noted a roof cap was made of a magnesium-tungsten alloy. Winston asked him what was so involved in. Ray reached for the Michelob can on the dash. Ray clarified he was looking at the blueprints for the structural ironwork in Dana Barrett's apartment building, and they were very, very strange. As Ray took a drink, Winston asked him if he remembered something in the Bible about the last days, when the dead would rise from the grave. Ray recalled Revelation 7:12 and recited a verse, "And I looked, as he opened the sixth seal. And behold, there was a great earthquake. And the sun became as black as sackcloth. And the moon became as blood." Winston finished with, "And the seas boiled. And the skies fell." Both called it Judgment Day. Ray noted every ancient religion had its own myth about the end of the world. Ray placed his cigarette back in his mouth. Winston bristled at "myth" and asked him if it ever occurred to him that maybe the reason they were so busy lately was because the dead have been rising from the grave. Ray paused and looked at him. He suggested a little music and turned on the radio. Winston agreed. The Ecto-1 drove across the Manhattan Bridge. A tune played. Sunrise was coming.

Trivia[]
Ghostbusters (1984) Trivia[]
- In the June 6, 1983 and July 6, 1983 drafts, Zuul feels sorry for a horse in a bridle and harness and kissed it.[1]
- The street performer use steel drums to play calypso, a style of Afro-Caribbean music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago during the early to mid-19th century.
- The scene in Central Park where possessed Louis talks to the horse is near 6th Avenue and was really done in the middle of the night on location at Columbus Circle in New York.[2]
- In the September 30, 1983 draft:
- On pages 79-81, the Columbus Circle scene has a few differences from the movie like Louis/Vinz asking the Coachman if he's the Gatekeeper and the Coachman sarcastically answering he is the Governor of New Jersey.
- On pages 81-82, Louis asks a store front mannequin on Seventh Avenue if it's the Gatekeeper then a hooker tries to play along to get a gig only to get pounced. Mounted police move in to pull Louis off her.
- Louis/Vinz and Peter mention Gozer.
- Louis/Vinz mentions the Sebouillia. In the August 5, 1983 draft, it was explained the Sebouillia are a lost pre-Sumerian society that worshiped Gozer but they disappeared without a trace. The ancient Sumerians kept a fragment from their religious text, the Glethestement, which was written in Sanskrit. A rough translation reveals the Sebouillias suffered from decadence and Gozer destroyed them for their sins. It was similar to the plight of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible.[3][4][5][6][7][8] The same draft also mentions the Temple of Gozer was an exact replica of a Sebouillian temple.[9]
- Danny Stone was nervous when he filmed his scene as the Coachman and barely got his lines out during the initial filming.[10]
- At around the 1 hour, 7 minute mark of the Preview Cut, included first in the 2022 Ghostbusters Ultimate Edition, the deleted scene "Louis Encounters Woman" appears followed by the police showing up at the Firehouse with possessed Louis in a paddy wagon.
- The exterior Firehouse scene was done at Hook & Ladder #8 in New York.
- The Police Sergeant's collar pin indicates he is with the 27th precinct.
- There is no 27th precinct in real life, but it is famously associated with the "Law & Order" franchise.
- The Police Sergeant mentions Bellevue Hospital.
- In the July 6, 1983 draft, on pages 85-86, the police drop off Louis/Vinz to Egon. Only Egon interrogates him and runs polygraph and blood tests. Egon offers to share a dehydrated food based meal with Vinz and says, "Yes, I would."
- In the August 5, 1983 draft:
- On page 84, Peter calls Egon about the possessed Dana but he doesn't know what to do. Possessed Louis is not at the Firehouse yet.
- On page 87, Janine notices Egon doing research and asks him if he likes to read because she does so people think she's too intellectual and she also likes racquetball. Egon tells her he collects spores, molds, and fungus then offers to show her his collection. She is interested.
- On page 88, the Police Sergeant admits it took him and seven officers to restrain the possessed Louis.[11]
- On page 88-89, Egon denies he is the Gatekeeper then asks him who he is. He introduces himself as Vinz Clortho. It is Vinz's mention of Gozer that convinces Egon to take custody of him. He is interviewed by Egon in the basement. The blood test and offer of a dehydrated food based meal from the July 6, 1983 draft is discarded.
- On page 90, possessed Dana is asleep but still floating three feet off the bed. Egon calls the apartment to tell Peter he has Vinz.
- In the September 30, 1983 draft:
- On page 89, Egon agrees to take Louis/Vinz from the Police Sergeant just by the strange glow in his eyes.
- Janine and Egon interview him in the basement. Egon introduces himself as "Creature of Earth, Doctor of Physics, Graduate of M.I.T." followed by Janine's line, "According to this his name is Louis Tully." like in the movie.
- On page 90, Janine offers Louis/Vinz coffee, followed by the "Yes, have some" gag, and he tells them about Gozer's past forms, then Egon gets a call from Peter just like in the movie.
- On page 91, Peter concludes it isn't a good idea to get Dana and Louis together, Egon agrees. Whereas in the movie, Egon states it isn't a good idea and Peter agrees.
- On page 92, Janine tells Egon about her premonition of his death like in the movie then Egon's response of them being like two bacteria on a rotting peck of dust from the previous draft is kept in.
- On page 93, Egon awkwardly responds to Janine's hug and notes she has nice clavicles. Then Fort Detmerring continues to page 94.
- The interior Firehouse scene was done at Fire House #23 in Los Angeles.
- When Egon and Janine interview possessed Louis, they simply had Rick Moranis duck out and used a one of the rubber heads of a Terror Dog during the parts where the screen shows Vinz Clortho.[12]
- The Aura-Video Analyzer now has a colander component.
- When Egon takes Louis's wallet from Janine, left of Egon's right shoulder are several articles on the wall. Above the red clipping is one with the headline, "Spook Squashed at Racquet Club." It is a headline from past drafts of the script:
- In the August 5, 1983 draft, at the start of the montage on page 63, the Ghostbusters emerge from the New York Health and Racquet Club and Winston holds up a Trap. The headline is the same, "Spook Squashed at Racquet Club."[13]
- In the September 30, 1983 draft, at the start of the montage on page 61, the Ghostbusters emerge from the New York Health and Racquet Club and Peter holds up a Trap. The headline is the same, "Spook Squashed at Racquet Club."[14]
- At around the 1:01:34, as Janine begins to make coffee, there is a smaller clipping at the bottom of the wall under the red clipping that reads, "Ghost Stoppers Pinch Punk Poltergeist." At around the 1:02:09 mark when Egon goes to answer the phone, directly above the lamp on the wall is another clipping of the bust titled "Ghost Busters Pinch Punk Poltergeist" like one that appeared earlier in the movie when Peter meets Walter Peck in Chapter 15: E.P.A. Man. It is to the right of the vintage Hook and Ladder No. 8 portrait.
- In the September 30, 1983 draft, on page 61, the Ghostbusters emerge from a New Wave club named The Mud Club. Ray is holding a trap. As they stow their gear back into Ecto-1, they encounter three punks dressed in futuristic jumpsuits and Devo helmets and they stare at each other. The scene ends with the headline GHOSTBUSTERS PINCH PUNK POLTERGEIST.
- On the dining table is a Wise Chips bag, a Perrier bottle, and a TaB can.
- Louis/Vinz mentions two prior invasions of Gozer:
- The Rectification of the Vuldronaii. The pre-chosen form Gozer arrived in was a large and moving Torb.
- The Third Reconciliation of the Last of the Meketrex Supplicants. They chose a Sloar for Gozer's Destructor Form. Gozer consumed many Shubs and Zulls in that form.
- The subtitles refer to the Zulls and Zuuls but to avoid confusion with Zuul, the Zull spelling from Ghostbusters: The Supernatural Spectacular was adopted here.
- On the counter were boxes of various food products like Sunshine Hi-Ho crackers, Uncle Ben's, Lays Potato Chips, Honey Oat cereal, and Multi Grain cereal.
- When Janine calls Egon over, a Cheez Its box can be seen on the coffee table. Egon ate from one in Chapter 09: The 1st Customer.
- At around the 1 hour, 10 minute mark of the Preview Cut, after Janine tells Egon she thinks he is going to die, he remarks she has nice clavicles then the phone rings. When Egon asks Peter why he is calling, Peter asks him if he remembers Dana Barrett, "The attractive cellist who came into our office a while back?" Egon recalls. Peter jokes she's ripe for the Bronx Zoo then the line about 300cc's of Thorazine follows.
- Dana's bedroom scene was part of the Stage 12 set at Burbank Studios in Los Angeles.
- Peter mentions "Wild Kingdom," an American documentary television program that featured wildlife and nature. It was originally produced from 1963 until 1988.
- Peter mentions using Thorazine on Dana/Zuul. Thorazine was used to treat psychotic disorders like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, nausea, vomiting, anxiety before surgery, and hiccups.
- When Louis/Vinz drinks, to the left is a small Folgers Coffee jar.
- In the July 6, 1983 draft, Ray and Winston investigate Fort Detmerring. On page 88, Winston and Ray leave the Fort and discuss what happened. Ray says he's in love.
- In the August 5, 1983 draft, on page 85, Ray is driving on the Hudson Parkway heading north with Winston. Ray admits he's Christian and likes Jesus' style. Winston agrees. Ray think the total massacre of the Phillistines would make a great movie then they arrive at Fort Detmerring.
- In the September 30, 1984 draft, on pages 86-87, Ray and Winston's end of the world talk in Ecto-1 is a lot like in the movie but bits from previous drafts like both liking Jesus' style still remain then they arrive at Fort Detmerring.
- The case is filmed but ended up in the Deleted Scene: Pulling Up To Fort Detmerring and Deleted Scene: The Fort Detmerring Ghost. The tail end of the latter was reused for Ray's dream in Chapter 14.
- The Ecto-1 driving scenes were really done in New York at the actual locations of FDR Drive Service Road East/Marginal Road, between Avenue C Loop/E. 18th Street & East 20th Street, and the Manhattan Bridge. Ray and Winston's conversation, however, took place in a car facade on a soundstage in Burbank Studios in Los Angeles.
- The shot of the FDR Drive Service Road was one of the few helicopter shots that was usable for the movie.[15]
- The sequence of Ray and Winston talking in Ecto-1 was filmed on Stage 18 at Burbank Studios on February 2, 1984, day 68 of photography.[Note 1]
- Winston mentions God, Jesus, his belief in them, and the Bible.
- Ray's beer is a Michelob.
- Ray looks at blueprints of 550 Central Park West. Back in Chapter 09: The 1st Customer, Ray suggested going to the hall of records and looking up the building.
- Ray was slightly off with his Revelation reference. It was really Revelation 6:12, not 7:12.
- After shooting moved to Los Angeles, the second unit continued doing a couple of shots in New York with Ecto-1 like at the Manhattan Bridge.[16]
- Ecto-1 died in the Chapter 20 "Keymaster" scene where Ray and Winston drove across the Manhattan Bridge.[17]
- The scene where Ray and Winston are in Ecto-1 talking about end of the world was used to audition actors for the role of Winston.[18]
- Newly recovered dailies from a Kansas mine revealed some of the alternate takes and discarded material:[19]
- Takes of possessed Louis being interviewed.
- When Janine hugs Egon, he responds she has nice clavicles as seen in drafts.
- Possessed Louis stuffs pizza slices into the popcorn.
- In Chapter 22: Holding Cell, Ray brings out the 550 Central Park blueprints he was studying.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trivia[]

Notes[]
- ↑ According to private correspondence with Eric Reich of Ghost Corps on July 18, 2020, the scene was filmed on Day 68, February 2, 1984, at Burbank Studios. "This was scene 116 shot at Burbank Studios on Day 68, Friday, February 2nd, 1984. They shot two INT ECTO-1 scenes at stage 18 that night. In the special instructions on the call sheet it called for "Grips: Poor man’s process"."

Paragraph reads: "The exchange between Louis and the horse harkens back to a deleted scene from the June and July drafts in which Venkman and the alien Zuul -- masquerading as human in Dana's body -- leave the restaurant and encounter several carriage horses. Noticing the bridles and harnesses, Zuul inquires if they are prisoners. Uncertain of her reaction, Venkman responds promptly: "No, no. They're volunteers. This is considered a good job for a horse." "They look so sad," Zuul laments, and then kisses one of the beasts with enough genuine emotion to elicit a worried look from the carriage driver. In the June draft, Venkman pulls her away and segues -- ever so smoothly -- into an invitation which leads to his surprise wakeup the next morning: "You know, I was just thinking. No trip to this dimension would be complete without a visit to the Times Square Motor Hotel."
