Ghostbusters Cameos are of clearly referenced moments when another universe uses the Ghostbusters mythos or props. The prop cameo section on the other hand uses props also used in the Ghostbusters movies in a non-Ghostbusters canon manner. This page doesn't include Tributes, Spoofs, and References.
Characters
- Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue-Guest spot for Slimer from The Real Ghostbusters.
- The Earth Day Special 1990- Harold Ramis made an appearance as "Elon Spengler", supposedly Egon Spengler's twin brother and President of Wastebusters.
- Casper (Film)-Guest part by Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz.
- Zombieland-Guest part by Bill Murray as himself. He does wear a proton pack like device in the film.
- In 2014 Target introduced an ad for Target Ticket (digital entertainment service) and among many movie characters (all in red) Stay Puft Marshmallow Man makes a cameo.[1]
- Radio Shack in an extended ad for the 2014 Super Bowl has a cameo appearance of Slimer. [2] The model of Slimer was made by Tyler Ham for Tom Spina Designs.[3]
Transformers Universe
Transformers over the years has had some cameos with characters that either use the same designs as in-universe counterparts or shares traits.
- Horri-Bull Transforms into a Terror Dog.
- Susan Hoffman hires characters that look like; Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, and Peter Venkman to capture Starscream's Ghost.
- Dead Transformers do have the ability to enter an afterlife. A list of ghosts that appear in the Transformers Universe is available here.
It's worth noting that The Real Ghostbusters had a comic, The Real Ghostbusters Marvel UK, being published by Marvel UK at the time "Race with the Devil" was printed in Transformers, so the appearances of Hoffman's assistants may have been an in-joke by artist Andrew Wildman, who worked on both books.
Props
The Ghostbusters movie props were actually rented out props which were used in other films/television shows. None of these films/television shows actually use the props based on Ghostbusters canon.
- Otherworld 1985 which uses PKE Meter prop.
- The Condor 1986 which uses PKE Meter prop.
- They Live 1988 which uses PKE Meter prop.
- Suburban Commando 1991 which uses PKE Meter prop.
Merchandise
Merchandise, such as shirts or toys sometimes make cameos in media. Usually it is not noted that its ghostbusters related, which then suggests its a cameo instead.
- In the 1990 film The Witches, the main character Luke is turned into a mouse by the evil witches and briefly resides in the Real Ghostbusters firehouse playset by Kenner towards the end of the movie.
- In the 1990 film Kindergarten Cop, the little boy character of Dominic has The Real Ghostbusters bed sheet set.
- In the 1991 film Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker The Ecto-1 Kenner toy makes two cameos. Noah (played by Tracy Fraim) holds the toy Ecto-1 in his hand in his home on his bed before the Landlord confronts him. The second cameo is at the end when Pino Petto starts stabbing white bags to kill Sarah son.
Commonly Mistaken as a Cameo: Ernie Hudson in Slime Busters
- On an episode of the The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!: Slime Busters, Ernie Hudson has a guest role as a Ghostbuster version of himself. Using cheap props and special effects, he rescues the plumbers from a ghost-possessed Luigi. While this is not a Cameo for Ghostbusters, it is confused quite often because of the use of actor Ernie Hudson.
