The Real Ghostbusters Merchandise Wave was based on The Real Ghostbusters and later elements of Slimer! as it was aired with the show as a hour block. It ran from 1986 through 1991 with some elements such as Now Comics and Ecto-Cooler going on into the middle nineties. While it was based on the cartoon, some elements from the films would be referenced in items. The Ghostbusters II Film Merchandise Wave would share promotional merchandise with some of this wave during 1989 and 1990.
Progression Of Merchandise From Season To Season[]
Much of the first merchandise was based on the pilot with color changes to mask the different designs. Stock art would be used which was based on the ghosts in the pilot.
As time moved on, the merchandise would appear based solely on stock art. The progression continued and some items towards the end were based on later versions Slimer, Janine, and Ray.
