The Goddess of Belle Isle is a benign ghost of a Native American woman occasionally seen on Belle Isle in Detroit.

According to legend, the daughter of Chief Sleeping Bear was so beautiful he tried to keep her safe from commoners by placing her in a covered boat adrift the Detroit River. The winds were taken with the girl and tried to blow of the covers off, causing mischief. Feeling remorseful, they returned the girl back to her father. The Chief relocated her to an island where the spirits promised to protect her with snakes. In modern day, witnesses claim to see the maiden's spirit dancing in the wind on Belle Isle.
