Development[]

On September 16, 2020, according to shipping database sites like Import Info, shipments of the RC RTV Ghost Trap arrived in Los Angeles on a ship named The One Commitment. It had 1,567 cases which held 3,134 units of the RC RTV total. Another shipment arrived in Savannah, Georgia with 1,433 cases that held 2,686 units total. A shipment arrived in Tacoma, Washington slated to head to Hasbro Canada. On September 23, 2020, another shipment arrived in Savannah aboard Ever Focus.[Note 1]

On July 13, 2021, the RC RTV Ghost Trap was listed on the ACD Distribution site as "ghb mane sloth popper" with an August 1, 2021 release date.[1]

On July 27, 2021, the RC RTV Ghost Trap was previewed among other new toys with stills, description, a fall 2021 estimated release date and $41.99 price.[2]

Between late July and early August 2021, pre-orders went live on Entertainment Earth and on Hasbro's online shop. Pre-orders were later cancelled and the pages were deleted from both sites. For a brief window of time around the week of August 16, 2021, the RC RTV Ghost Trap was for sale on Gamestop's website but it sold out quickly.

In late August or early September 2021, the RC RTV Ghost Trap appeared on Fun.com and on its ebay store. Due to the site's algorithm, the price surged up to the $100 range and quickly sold out in a night. The RC RTV was accidentally shipped within retail assortments by distributors to a few small business brick and mortar stores. Local toy stores began to advertise the toy, including Throne of Toys in Michigan and Toy Federation in South Carolina. Despite barcodes for the toy existing in big box stores such as Target and Walmart, the RC RTV was never released by them.

Around the time Ghostbusters: Afterlife came out in U.S. theaters in November 2021, RC RTV toys were advertised by Popcultcha, an Australian pop culture department store. Those who ordered it from Popcultcha received it in an original case box with an original shipment sticker from Entertainment Earth.

The "GHB RC Funnel" item listed on Amazon in August 2021 for pre-order had a shipping estimate of January 2023. On the first week of January 2023, a small number of the RC Funnels were delivered from Jacksonville, Florida. The item turned out to be more RC RTV Ghost Traps.[3]

In the middle of September 2023, Chinese resellers began placing RC RTV Ghost Traps for purchase online. The packaging indicates this stock was manufactured in July 2021, one full year after the manufacture date of the previous run found at Fun, GameStop, and PopCultcha.[4][5]
