Ghostbusters Year One 2 is the second of a four part mini-series by IDW Publishing.

Plot

Being interviewed for a book on the Ghostbusters, RAY STANTZ will relate some of his earlier days working with Venkman and Spengler, as well as tell the tale of their first concrete encounter with a ghost... and the eventual fate of that spectral librarian that chased them out of the New York Public Library!^[1]

On October 4, 2019, Tom Waltz made a cryptic post tagging Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening, Luis Antonio Delgado, and Tim Lattie and revealing four covers featuring each of the original Ghostbusters and nods to the first movie.^[2]

On October 21, 2019, Tom Waltz posted another teaser image featuring each of the original Ghostbusters.^[3]

On November 18, 2019, in an interview recorded on November 12, Erik Burnham revealed the story is about the Ghostbusters going back to the New York City Public Library and trying to capture the Library ghost. He also revealed Dan Schoening just turned in layouts for the issue.^[4]^[5]

On December 6, 2019, Tom Waltz posted a colored but unlettered page from Issue #2.^[6]

On January 3, 2020, Erik Burnham announced work on Issue #2 was all done.^[7]

On January 20, 2020, in an interview, Erik Burnham revealed the story is set after Winston was hired and there is a scene revealing when Egon and Ray were first introduced to each other in college.^[8]^[9]

On January 27, 2020, in an interview, Erik Burnham revealed the story of Peter introducing Ray to Egon in their college days will be a few panels and hints at their hair styles being different back then.^[10]

On January 31, 2020, Dan Schoening posted a panel featuring the exterior of the New York Public Library.^[11]

On March 2, 2020, Luis Delgado posted an unlettered panel with Dean Yeager, Roger Delacorte, and Alice.^[12]

On March 3, 2020, Tom Waltz posted two pages and two lettered panels.^[13]

On March 4, 2020, Luis Delgado posted unlettered panels of Ray in a deep sea submarine.^[14]

On March 6, 2020, Luis Delgado posted an unlettered panel of Ray, Peter, and Egon from a flashback.^[15]

It was notably used to explore the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in 1964, discovered deep sea hydrothermal vents in 1977 in the Galapagos, and exploring the Titanic wreckage.
- In panel 3, Ray's outfit is based on a jogging outfit worn by Dan Aykroyd's character Clifford Skridlow in "Dr. Detroit" (1983).
- In panel 4, Ray is wearing a blue suit based on one also worn by Clifford Skridlow in "Dr. Detroit" when Smooth Walker and his girls take out on the town.

- Egon's scarf is based on one worn by the Fourth Doctor in the "Doctor Who" television series.

- In the first movie's deleted scene "Nobel Prize Aspirations," Peter mentions he introduced Ray and Egon to each other.
  - In terms of the IDW canon, the introduction was mentioned on Peter's Crossing Over virtual trading card.^[19]
- Egon mentions he met Peter in a women's studies course he was mistakenly assigned to.

- Peter assures Ray and Egon no one will care about their results. Evidently, the Board of Regents did.
- Ray alludes to MKOFTEN. It was rumored to have consulted with and hired fortune tellers, palm readers, clairvoyants, astrologists, mediums, psychics, voodoo practitioners, witches, magicians, demonologists, satanists, and exorcists in its study of the occult.
- Ray mentions MKUltra, a CIA mind control project that ran from 1953 to 1973. The project was revealed to the public in Fall 1975 during the Church Committee Senate Hearings.
- Peter mentions MKUltra's documents were all destroyed. CIA director Richard Helms ordered all documents destroyed in 1973.
- The women Peter leaves with are visually based on the military police from "Stripes," Stella and Louise dressed in their civies from the rescue operation later in the movie.
