Ichabod Crane [1] is the inspiration for Washington Irving's tale, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

History

In the early 19th century, Ichabod Crane was employed in the town of Sleepy Hollow. Irving's tale posits him as a moral and upright schoolteacher, but immoral and superstitious when he isn't working. After a failed flirtation with Katrina Van Tassel, daughter of a wealthy farmer, Crane leaves for home but is pursued by the Headless Horseman.

The following morning, townspeople found Crane's horse and pieces of a pumpkin. Unknown to all, Crane survived and crawled from the river. He soon started a family and had a son. 20 years later, the son of Crane was also pursued by the Horseman. [2] Thus, a family curse began in which the entity would stalk each descendant of Ichabod Crane. [3] [4] It went on until the mid-1980s when the Ghostbusters aided Crane's latest descendant, Kate, in capturing the Horseman.
