Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Special Agent Melanie Ortiz, and an Egon Spengler from another dimension entered a cave on Chiloe in search of the key to Bishop Gottskalk Nikulausson's secret tomb. 10 minutes later, they encountered an Imbunche. It crawled along the walls and growled at them then leaped towards Peter. Peter yelled out for someone to shoot it. Egon made it clear he was right about his Brujo theory then fired his Destabilizer at it. On Peter's request, Egon shot it again. The Imbunche was neutralized but the body fell on top of Peter. Before Egon could grab a sample of the sputum, the Brujo appeared.
Based on Myth
Imbunche are from Chilote myth and acts as guardians to the Brujo's caves. According to myth, they were originally first born sons either kidnapped by or sold to Brujo when they are nine days old or less. He debaptizes the child then breaks a leg over his head. At three months, he forks the tongue and applies a magic cream on the baby's back to encourage growth of thick hair. In the first months, the child is fed black cat's milk, goat's flesh, and human flesh from cemeteries. At some point, many body parts are twisted - arms, fingers, nose, mouth, and ears.
- In Ghostbusters International #9, page four, the scream can be attributed the the Imbunche, who can only communicate in guttural noises.
