Madame Malveaux[1] is a ghost that feeds on certain negative emotions.

History[]

Madame Malveaux was a famous medium in the 1980s. She operated from a parlor in Hell's Kitchen.[2] Mourners from around the world sought her services so they could reconnect with their departed love ones. Ray Stantz was invited to document one of her seances. He verified she had clairvoyant powers.[3] When the Ghostbusters defeated Vigo at the beginning of 1990, she lost her connection to the other side.[4] Despite not having her powers anymore, she continued with her business but began using trickery.[5][6] Grieving families were manipulated into paying her to bring back personal messages from their deceased loved ones. In reality, she collected private information on her clients and used what she found to trick them into thinking she was speaking to their family or friends. On May 20, 1993, she was arrested for committing fraud. Police discovered stolen files in a safe under her parlor's floor. Malveaux never served jail time due to a technicality and disappeared from public sight. She heard the call of residue from Vigo's portrait that survived the New Year's battle, nurtured his power back in existence, and reconnected with the spirit realm.[7] For decades, she bathed in a pit of Green Super Slime somewhere in the sewers and fixated on those who wronged her, the Ghostbusters.[8][9]

In June 2022, all Cockroach Acolytes migrated underground to a pool of green ectoplasm and fed more of the substance into it. Their unseen master welcomed the taste of fear, resentment and discord collected from the Spengler family. It demanded more. The next day, Madame Malveaux called to Phoebe Spengler. Phoebe followed readings on her P.K.E. Meter and located the pit of ectoplasm in the sewers. Phoebe demanded the ghost to show themself. Malveaux rose from the pool and stated the city only needed chaos, not the Ghostbusters. Phoebe asked Malveaux who she was and if she was the one releasing ghosts all over the city. The ghost revealed she was the "Great Madame Malveaux! The Medium of Manhattan! "The Oracle of Gotham!" Phoebe asked if she was famous of just kind of known. Malveaux boasted she had customers worldwide. The name failed to ring any bells with Phoebe. Malveaux claimed the reason why was because the Ghostbusters ruined her life. Phoebe believed she had the wrong person. Malveaux wanted to know if she was Ghostbuster. Phoebe admitted officially she was not, but unofficially she ate Mesopotamian gods for breakfast.

Malveaux revealed how she lost her powers. Phoebe mused that was bad for business but pointed out the Ghostbusters couldn't just have left Vigo to his own devices. Malveaux explained Phoebe recalled toying around with Psychomagnotheric Slime left her indifferent. Malveaux yelled at her to be quiet and revealed her plan was to overrun the city with with enough ghosts that not even the Ghostbusters could stop and then people would seek her out again.[10] Phoebe heard enough but Malveaux was unafraid. Phoebe realized Malveaux's cockroaches sabotaged her Proton Pack. She quickly removed the cyclotron and fled the pit room. Malveaux gloated she would see the rest of the Ghostbusters real soon.

Malveaux flooded the Times Square with Green Super Slime and tapped off the energy it stored from the chaos. The Ghostbusters arrived but Malveaux found their opposition pathetic. Phoebe believed they could defeat her and recalled Vigo was beaten by a bunch of singing New Yorkers. Gary Grooberson joined in and taunted Malveaux by calling her "Maleficient" and bragging he loved karaoke. She screamed her name at them. Before they could open fire, they were hit by a wave of slime. Phoebe realized the slime reacted to disruption and disarray and Malveaux chose Times Square because it was the one place she could create the most chaos. Even though the Psychomagnotheric Slime crystals affixed to everyone's Particle Throwers were burned out, Phoebe directed Callie and Phoebe to shoot at Malveaux on her signal while Trevor retrieved the Remote Trap Vehicle from Ecto-1. Phoebe readied a bottle containing one last positively charged Psychomagnotheric Slime crystal. Malveaux mocked Callie and Gary as she dodged their shots. Callie got an idea and told Gary to shoot the New Year's Eve Ball. The beam refraction surprised Malveaux. Trevor opened the Remote Trap Vehicle. Malveaux was amused by their futile attempt and declared she could not be stopped. Phoebe threw the crystal into the Trap. The trap cone passed through crystal and modified it. Malveaux was captured. Phoebe joked that was the problem with clairvoyants, they were so predictable.
