The Nightgaunt is a type of creatures left behind in secret domains by the Old Ones to protect it and them while they are in states of dormancy.

History

As the Ghostbusters and Katarina Novachenka descended into a mountain in Dnepropetrovsk, they speculated what guardians they would find since they could range from anything - Shuggoth, Shamblers, or Ghasts.[2][3][4][5] Instead, they encountered several Nightgaunts. The Ghostbusters easily confined and trapped the Nightgaunts. However, it became apparent the Traps weren't designed to hold these types of entities indefinitely.[6] The trap soon started to disintegrate. Ray Stantz threw it to a safe distance where it exploded.

Trivia

  • In H.P. Lovecraft's works, the Nightgaunt only served the Elder God Nodens and the Old One Yibb-Tstll. They were said to guard Ngranek, a towering extinct volcano that contained passage ways to and from the Underworld and tunnels that stretched to the lower reaches of Dreamland.
