Peyton & Eli's Spooky Adventure is a "Peyton's Places" Halloween special that streamed on October 23, 2022 on ESPN+ and premiered on television on October 31, 2022 on ESPN2

Plot[]

Host Peyton Manning and his younger brother Eli head to the University of Notre Dame on a Spooky Adventure searching for a college football icon.

Summary[]

When two Irish football players see the ghost of Notre Dame's most legendary football player, George Gibbs, head coach Marcus Freeman calls in Peyton Manning and Eli Manning for a ghost busting Halloween adventure. Peyton jokes he once saw the ghost of Coach Tom Coughlin but it turned to just be Coughlin. They learn the sordid history of Gibbs, his gambling, being late, his saintly status, and the circumstances of his death by pneumonia. Eli is curious why Freeman asked them. Freeman tells them it takes living legends to get him. The haunting is reported on Sportscenter. Various students and professors speculate why Gibbs is around. Jimmy Kimmel talks about the Mannings being called in and jokes they're used to crossing streams since they grew up together and had to use the same bathroom.

The Mannings meet with Kathleen Van Vleet, who runs Washington Hall. Kat tells them about sightings of Gibbs' ghost like the sound of his French horn. Peyton likens the location to 550 Central Park West and instantly recognizes her dousing rods from Tobin's Spirit Guide to Eli's surprise. They in turn recruit Jerome Bettis to join them. They find him in the middle of a final exam. Bettis concedes due to his love of busting and goes with them. They check out the plaque that memorializes Gibbs' legendary speech. They suit up like Ghostbusters then drive to Washington Hall in Ecto-1, destroying a gate arm. Peyton claims they're on a mission from God but Eli recognizes he's quoting the wrong movie. Bettis asks about the pack. Eli succinctly explains what a Proton Pack does then claims he learned it all on YouTube. Bettis wonders about the end of the world and "waking up the echoes." Peyton believes Tom Brady coming out of retirement to be the first sign of the end of the world.

They pull up to a crowd chanting Gibb's nickname "Gipper." After pointing out the spot where Gibbs caught pneumonia and addressing the crowd, some P.K.E. brews at the entrance but they go in. Eli states he will leave if the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is waiting for them. Despite his reservations, Peyton tells them to split up. Peyton runs into a janitor who thinks he came to take care of the rats. Bettis comes upon a student rehearsing Hamlet and completes his line, to his surprise. Bettis implies he reads rather than sitting around and watching ESPN+ all day. Eli runs into the ghost of a female college student. He apologizes for thinking she was someone else and leaves without incident. They reunite and head into the theater. Gibbs is floating above the stage. Peyton orders them to do a split formation. Eli protests his quarterbacking. They get into position but are slimed. They regroup and trap him. Peyton picks up the Trap and high fives them but he feels guilty and decides to release Gibbs because he is an important part of gridiron history, connecting past with present. Gibbs is released. Peyton asks him for a selfie. Gibbs is surprised and offers to haunt Coach Belichick instead. They take a selfie and Peyton throws him a football. Gibbs catches it and disperses. They elect to tell the people outside that they did what they could for Gibbs.
