Rick and Morty is an animated sitcom that centers on scientist Rick Sanchez and the inter-dimensional misadventures he gets into with his grandson Morty Smith, as well as Morty's parents and sister.

Episodes[]

  • "Meeseeks and Destroy" (January 20, 2014, Season 1) - Morty activates a device to capture his possessed family, which operates similarly to the Ghostbusters' ghost trap.
  • "The Rickchurian Mortydate" (October 1, 2017, Season 3) - The President of the United States (Keith David) calls upon Rick and Morty to rid the secret tunnels under the White House of an alien menace. Resentful of being used every time the President has a problem of this nature, Rick says that the President treats them like Ghostbusters. Upon learning of their remarks in the government surveillance transcript, the President comments to his staff, "So, Ghostbusters aren't cool, now? I don't recall signing that bill."
  • "Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim's Morty" (December 8, 2019, Season 4) - Rick looks through the dragon Balthromaw's (Liam Cunningham) treasure and finds a vintage Ecto-Cooler. Rick offers him $20. Balthromaw is amused by his offer, implying he knows it's worth way more.
  • "Gotron Jerrysis Rickvangelion" (August 1, 2021, Season 5) - Around 14:57-17:47, Morty drinks an Ecto Cooler on the family couch. Around 20:07-20:14, Jerry is cornered by a giant alien monster outside his house and yells and pounds for help but to no avail then slides down in abject fear much like when Vinz Clortho caught up to Louis in the first movie.
  • "Wet Kuat Amortican Summer" (November 26, 2023) (Season 7) - In the cold open, Rick recalls Summer asked him for "ghost goggles." Later in the episode, Summer encounters a man named Kwyatt who has a Kuato named Godiva. Godiva loosely resembles Janine's look from the early season of The Real Ghostbusters.
  • "Valkyrick" (June 1, 2025, Season 8) - Rick and Space Beth infiltrate a rogue Groflomite eugenicist's ship and run into a soldier. Rick intimates he could be an unlikely ally but the soldier doesn't understand the concept. Rick asks if their culture believe in ghosts and the soldier answers they do. Rick asks if it had any hit movies about busting ghosts successful enough to spawn cartoons and sequels and the soldier answers they do then Rick compares the concept of an unlikely ally to a ghost hanging out with the Ghostbusters. The soldier understands and is disgusted by the offer. The soldier inhales something. Rick notes he's too cool to be Slimer but is asthmatic. He transforms into a super strong form and a fight breaks out. Later in the episode, Rick and Space Beth enter into a tenuous alliance with a Groflomite general (Stephen Root) and Rick declares they got a "Slimer."
  • "The Last Temptation of Jerry" (June 15, 2025, Season 8) - Rick and Morty encounter Jerry, now transformed into a monstrous Easter Bunny, on Easter Island and try to get him to stand down after he slaughters several alien Christ Troopers. Jerry replies, "There is no Jerry, only Bunny" - a nod to possessed Dana's line "There is no Dana, only Zuul" in the first Ghostbusters movie.

Promotions[]

  • "Bah Humbug Holiday Promo" (December 22, 2020, Adult Swim) - A 12 second promo featuring Rick and Morty as "A Christmas Carol" has Rick donning a Proton Pack to deal with the Ghosts of Christmas.
