San Francisco is a bay area city in California and the location of a franchise of Ghostbusters.
History[]
In 1984, Gustav Hookfaber relocated to San Francisco and saw it as an untapped source of paranormal energy he could utilize.[Note 1][1] In 1991, he opened a factory in San Francisco. In 1994, he opened a second factory in San Francisco.[Note 1] The San Francisco branch of the Ghostbusters was founded by Gabriela Sparks and the formation was announced on November 24, 1994.[Note 2] He went through a series of scientific ups and downs over the decades. Hookfaber's research led him to unwittingly awakening a dormant evil known as the Ghost Lord. In an ancient prophecy called "The March of the Malevolent," the Ghost Lord would usher every restless soul to seek revenge against the living. Hookfaber became overwhelmed and could hear the Ghost Lord in his head. On March 13, 2003, Hookfaber Industries broke ground on a new factory dedicated to revolutionizing the San Francisco water and power system. On May 23, 2009, Hookfaber made headlines again about his project to revolutionize the power grid but city officials like Ronald Petnick were skeptical. Fires ravaged Chinatown and Hookfaber offered to help rebuild it. Six months later, residents demanded an inquiry into the contractual nature of the deal after many like Jin Han became doubtful of his motives. Hookfaber managed to take ownership of much of Chinatown thanks to his lawyers and also did work at Alcatraz Island.[2] He ended up investing millions for his various city projects.[3] In 2011, he was given the Key to the City.[Note 1] Gustav planned to harness the collective negativity of San Francisco. Many of his devices like the Harvesters were based on the Containment Unit but it in addition it drained the ghost of its psychokinetic energy. He secretly installed the Harvesters around the city and eventually captured all ghosts in San Francisco.
On November 20, 2022, Hookfaber's genius intern Katie Miller went missing. He called it the "price of progress."[4] In an incident in the Hookfaber Mansion, both Hookfaber and Miller perished. A P.K.E. surge was detected by Gabriela but she was elsewhere in California handling other cases so she sent her assistant to the origin of the surge, Hookfaber Mansion. The assistant got spooked and left all of the Ghostbusters equipment inside. Gabriela turned to her associate, blogger Big T to hire a courier to retrieve the equipment. The courier completed their task but found an laboratory under the mansion and accidentally released the Ghost Lord from a Harvester. The city was soon rocked with strange earthquakes and P.K.E. surges. City officials refused to acknowledge any claims of ghosts. Big T headhunted more recruits to help form a new team of Ghostbusters to capture ghosts, close the Emergences that ghosts were crossing over from, and help collect data while Gabriela and Big T researched Hookfaber and the Ghost Lord. Gabriela and Big T concluded they would need Hookfaber's Summoning Staff prototype. The team was sent back to the mansion and found it but they were attacked by the Ghost Lord. Gabriela fired the staff at Ghost Lord but it only strengthened him and the team was whisked off to the Golden Gate Bridge. The Ghost Lord, now in a gigantic form, resumed his assault. Gabriela caught up to them in Ecto-1 and hopped the wreckage. She recalibrated the Summoning Staff and effectively damaged the Ghost Lord. The team trapped its eyes then crossed the streams with the Summoning Staff's beam and defeated the Ghost Lord once and for all. Through Ronald Petnick, the Mayor of San Francisco invited the Ghostbusters to his office for a congratulatory toast. Gabriela got a surprise call from Ray Stantz, who praised her victory but warned her about future super surges.

Well, you don't know my story. 1984. My research brought me to Columbia University where I studied under the Ghostbusters. They dismissed my work. Called it "dangerous." But in San Francisco, I can show them. With its untapped cauldron of the undead. Where others saw fear, I saw subjects. How could I know my research would stir a dormant evil. Alcatraz. Tortured souls whose guilt I could drain and drain again. Their pain, the price of progress my dear assistant Katie understands. Soon, everyone will understand. Especially you Ghostbusters with your silly parlor tricks. You will see the progress I have made. Know the power I have harnessed. You will realize that I, Gustav Hookfaber, am the genius who gave the world endless clean energy. The Ghost Lord is coming. What have I brought upon the world? The time of the Ghost Lord is here."
