The San Francisco Ghostbusters are a franchise of Ghostbusters who operate in San Francisco and are the protagonists of Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord.
History[]
The San Francisco branch of the Ghostbusters was founded by Gabriela Sparks and announced on November 24, 1994.[Note 1] However, there weren't any ghosts to bust.[1] Decades later, a new team was formed after a P.K.E. spike was detected at Hookfaber Mansion and an incident led to the release of a diabolical entity named Ghost Lord. Gabriela guided them remotely while she dealt with cases throughout the state. While the team dealt with various busts around the Bay Area, Gabriela and journalist Big T conducted research and analysis on Ghost Lord, Gustav Hookfaber, and an ancient prophecy called "The March of the Malevolent."
Garbiela theorized Hookfaber's hidden prototype Summoning Staff was the key to controlling Ghost Lord and sent the team back to the Hookfaber Mansion to retrieve it. Before the team could leave with the staff, Ghost Lord appeared with several ghosts. Gabriela instructed them to place the staff in the container on Ecto-1. The team weakened it with Proton Streams then Gabriela fired the charged up staff at it. It had the opposite effect and Ghost Lord enlarged into a giant form after absorbing its power. It revealed it manipulated them into retrieving the staff in order to fulfill the prophecy. The team battled Ghost Lord on the Golden Gate Bridge. Ronald Petnick, unaware of the situation, yelled at the Ghostbusters for breaking every Health and Safety rule. Ghost Lord picked Petnick up and tossed him into the San Francisco Bay. He tried to grab Gabriela but she ran for cover and used the recalibrated Summoning Staff. The beam shattered the glass helmet and the team tethered an eye out then trapped it. Ghost Lord backed away in agony as the Ghostbusters continued battling his army of ghosts. Once Ghost Lord came into range, Gabriela fired at the glass helmet again. The team tethered and trapped Ghost Lord's other eye. Gabriela shared her plan to hijack the Staff with antiprotons and create a beam rather than a pulse then merge it with the Proton Wands on reverse. The Ghostbusters crossed their streams into the Staff's beam as Gabriela blasted the Ghost Lord. It worked and the world was saved. Gabriela revealed her team made the papers. Petnick sort of apologized for how he treated the team and announced the Mayor invited them over for a congratulatory toast. Gabriela was shocked and excited to receive a phone call from congratulatory Ray Stantz. He asked to pass his thanks to the team and warned her about something called the Apocalypse Avoidance Super Surge.
During a June blizzard, Ray summoned the San Francisco Ghostbusters to the Firehouse and asked them for their help in dealing with Garraka. He made a mental note to have Janine update the records then tried to remember where he placed the Heat Beam attachments. He came out into the office, found them, and explained the Heat Beams was a new adaption made by Lars Pinfield that concentrates UV waveforms for targeted ice melting. He then asked the team to help in look for a brass Swedish chocolate box with their P.K.E. Meters. They returned from upstairs with the box. Ray told them the story about how Gustav Hookfaber came to them in the 80s with the box claiming it briefly contained the spirit of his dead sister and at the time thought he was scamming them for funding. He believed Hookfaber's research might help them extract and contain Garraka. Gabriela arrived late but was frozen by a Googly. The Heat Beam thawed her out while Ray and the others trapped the ghost. Ray instructed the team to head back to San Francisco and search Alcatraz for Hookfaber's secret office and locate his diary. They went to Hookfaber Factory in search of three objects Hookfaber trapped ghosts in. After they placed them on Frequency Generators, they were surprised to see Ghost Lord manifest and defeated him again. While the team worked in San Francisco, Garraka escaped the orb. Ray and Gabriela speculated the Ghost Lord Hookfaber served was really Garraka. The team headed to Chinatown to restore a Harvester in order to collect ectoplasm from five icy ghosts.
The team returned to New York to deliver the canisters just as Garraka emptied the Containment Unit of the captured ghosts in it. On the roof, they encountered Garraka who stole the canisters. As they attacked with Heat Beams, Garraka dropped the canisters. As vents overheated, they placed the canisters on them. Ray reported the canisters flooded the Containment Unit and acted like coolant. They reversed the entropy on it and used the Containment Unit to trap Garraka. Gabriela declared they earned themselves a break.
