Patch 1.0.2 (10/21/22) Details[]

Thank you everyone for playing our game, and thank you for your feedback! While we continue to support the game, we wanted to get fixes out for some issues as soon as we could.

  • Interact prompts in the Firehouse are now present when playing offline.
    • Fixed an issue where select actions could cause a Ghost player to clip through the map.
    • Resolved a condition where the Ghost player's camera could misbehave if the Ghost is tethered right as the Ghost possesses an object.
    • Fixed an issue where if the VAD wasn't able to connect properly on use it would lock the Ghostbuster player's input.
    • Ghosts can no longer pick up a Ghost Trap with the "Base Anchor" attachment.
    • Improved crossplay party invites for players on Epic Games.
    • Select Ghostbuster equipment unlocks are now properly gated behind challenge completion.
    • Fixed an issue where equipping the Overclock Module on the Ghost Trap would cause all Ghost Trap attachments to unequip.
    • Improved animations around using the Containment Unit in the Firehouse basement.
    • Fixed an issue where the "Stylish" may not be awarded upon equipping an unlocked cosmetic.
    • Squidler can now properly use abilities while holding an object.
    • Side Hustles, Research Contracts, and Challenges can no longer be progressed or completed in the alley.

    • Increased the cost of the Ghost's Speed Bursting.
      • Tuned the mechanics of the tether escape minigame. The sweet spot will now react more quickly to the Ghostbuster player's pull direction changes, requiring the Ghost player to react quicker to remain in the sweet spot.

Update 1.0.3 is here with a new Party Code system we are testing on EGS that allows players to join lobbies with a code without being friends.

Welcome to Patch 1.3.0!

A large part of this QOL update is focused on gameplay balance adjustments. Initially after launching and observing gameplay, we were able to make some smaller adjustments in the recent hotfixes. However, we quickly began to notice patterns that brought light to larger imbalances. Between looking at match data, talking with the community, playing the game, and watching various livestreams/videos, it was clear to us that the Ghost was consistently at a disadvantage.

For this update, our goal is to help the Ghost perform better in certain areas while also remaining measured to avoid a massive pendulum swing in balance. This was done mainly by nerfing Ghostbuster gear and tightening up the effectiveness of Ghost functionality instead of simply providing the Ghost with a flat increase in power.

We look forward to playing more with everyone and we’ll keep an eye out to make sure the impact of these changes continue to keep this game as enjoyable to play as possible!

Tenure For our dedicated Ghosts and Ghostbusters who have achieved the level cap, we have a new feature just for you!

Introducing the new Tenure system! Reaching the maximum level of 100 will now allow you to use the Tenure system.

Each Tenure level will unlock something special to show off your vast experience as a Ghostbuster. The first level of Tenure unlocks a unique hat for your Buster as well as a special badge for your player card.

Currently there is only 1 Tenure level available, but there will be many more to come!

Increasing your Tenure level will reset the following:

  • Player Level
  • Gear Levels
  • Ghost Levels
  • All Unlocked Gear & Attachments
  • Contract Progression
  • Collectibles
  • This action is NOT reversible.*
  • All cosmetic items and narrative stages will remain unlocked. *

Name Tags A new type of cosmetic has arrived in the Firehouse!

Head over to the Customization Lockers to try on the new Name Tags for your Buster’s jumpsuit! Name tags come in a variety of different preset names and can be unlocked by leveling up or completing contracts.

Keyboard and Controller Remapping Custom gamepad and keyboard remapping are now available in your settings menu! Remap your controllers, keyboards, and mice with separate settings for Ghosts and Ghostbusters.

These fixes include a change that should (hopefully) fix the problem in which players were being placed into the incorrect team, causing several different matchmaking issues. If you are still encountering any of the issues listed below, please let us know in the bug-reports channel so that we can diagnose the issue as soon as possible. There are many more changes, fixes, and new content on the way in the upcoming patch, so look forward to it!

Patch 1.4.0 (1/31/23) Details[]

Patch Notes 1.4.0 (DLC #1) New Map - MOROS Medical Facility Introducing the MOROS Medical Facility, the latest job that has become available in the Firehouse!

Closed for good in the late 1980s, MOROS Medical has recently been purchased by a private investor group who have plans to renovate and reopen the facility. Unfortunately for them, it’s being plagued by ghostly activity, and construction crews refuse to enter this haunted health center.

New Ghost Type - Glutton The new Glutton type is a bit more unique than your standard Ghost. Gluttons all share the unique ability “Consume” which allows them to munch away on many objects inside the different maps. By consuming objects, they will increase their bloat meter, which increases the power of their Ultimate abilities! Each variant has a different type of regurgitation Ultimate that expels the consumed debris in powerful attacks. Although their Ultimates benefit from a lower cooldown, you must consume enough to utilize their full potential.

Two New Secondary Gadgets - Belt Gizmo & Disruptor Pylon Two new secondary gadgets have been added to the Ghostbuster’s toolkit to further diversify busting gameplay. Visit the workbench or the gear cart to equip these new items once you are at the appropriate level.

Belt Gizmo Simple and small, but effective, the Belt Gizmo is a passive gadget that dulls your Ectovision signature substantially while worn. This makes it much more difficult for the ghosts to track you, though it does not prevent it completely if your fear levels are too high.

Disruptor Pylon Deployable, battery pylon device that scans a large area around it for psycho kinetically infused physical objects. If a P.K.E. infused object is detected, the arc field being generated charges and fires on the object, destroying it. Ghosts in the vicinity of the Disruptor pylon are unable to possess objects

New Gear Attachment - P.K.E. Meter: Ecto-Zapper A new arm attachment for the P.K.E. meter provides busters an alternative ghost stunning device. The Ecto Zapper must be activated and thrusted to stun ghosts, but can also passively stun ghosts passing through the buster if they have the zapper activated. The Ecto Zapper is unlockable via research contract and while the range is limited, has a shorter reboot time.

Customization New Cosmetic - Gear Shells Want a specific look but want to keep attachment modifications? We've got you covered with Gear shells. Gear Shells override the gear look without removing the attachment stat modifications. Some of the more unique attachments, such as the R.T.V. kit do not allow shells due to their unique functionality and will state this upon equipping.

New Buster Customization - Morph Targets Customize your Buster’s face the way you REALLY want to!

With these new Morph Targets, you will be able to adjust your Buster’s face in a variety of different ways. We added negative values that allow you to make facial features smaller.

Suit Patches There’s a whole bunch of new Patches to put on your suit and a new corkboard in the Firehouse to display your collection of Patches!

The Real Ghostbusters We’ve also got a ton of new cosmetics coming out in this patch such as The Real Ghostbusters Hairstyles, Eyewear, and Gear Shells.

Ghost Swapping You all have been asking for this feature and it’s finally here!

Ghosts are now able to swap to different Ghost Type mid-match. You can select the Ghost Type that you would like to remanifest as in the Pause Menu or after being captured as the Ghost.

After being captured, you will remanifest as the Ghost that you have selected

General

  • Large readability pass to improve user feedback for gadget abilities. This includes improvements to sounds, VFX, and UI to show proper cooldown feedback to the player when using a special attachment.

Snub Nose

  • Increased Mantle Duration

We found some gear upgrade builds made mantle duration overly fast, making some mantle animations look and feel glitchy and making mantle mobility disproportionate to normal buster navigation. Since the Snub Nose upgrade has so many benefits associated with it, we felt reducing the Mantle Duration speed boost would help even out the utility of the upgrade

Cryo Syncs

  • Reduced Heat Generation

Particle Thruster

  • Fixed a bug where stat changes on the Particle Thruster weren't being applied
  • Reduced Proton Stream Range
  • Replaced Tether Strength with Heat Generation

Particle Thruster is on a mode switch, which toggles between PT Mode and normal mode when the ability button is pressed when the buster isn't firing. This allows players to pick when they want to use the extra heat gen to boost their stream range. PT Mode is also affected by other stat changes made by the buster's other gear upgrades

Centrifugal Thruster

  • Added Sprint Boost
  • Removed Overheat Cooldown Duration
  • Replaced Knockback Recovery with Venting Speed
  • Reduced Deploy Time

Ghosts

  • Reduced Cooldowns of Ultimates across all Ghost types

  • Addressed an issue that was causing Ghosts to become temporarily invisible We’ve implemented several different fixes for this issue over the past couple of patches. We hope this is the fix that will get rid of this bug once and for all, but there still may be some edge cases that we haven’t caught. DLC 2 Patch

Everyone here at IllFonic is excited and proud to present our second free DLC Update for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed! I’m particularly excited about this update due to the numerous fun additions and countless improvements directly influenced by your, the community's, feedback. Not only is there a new map to play, but a new ghost type that gave us a unique opportunity to bring the iconic Terror Sentinel to the hands of a player. We've all seen this Ghost command the big screen, so being able to translate all of those qualities to the Possessor Ghost type was a dream come true and creates interesting new gameplay for everyone.

Another part of the excitement for this update lies in the implementation of Drudges. These little helpers are sent by Tobin to aid the ghosts in their haunting of locations. 3 start in the map to help haunt or scare civilians and more can be summoned from exposed Rifts. With this addition, balance was unsurprisingly shifted and required us to make adjustments to variables surrounding room and location haunting speeds now that the ghost had backup. After you jump in and pop a few Drudges, head back to the Firehouse to check out the large assortment of cosmetics and gear shells from the Extreme Ghostbusters! We look forward to seeing everyone out there enjoying the new scenarios and thrills that await with all these new features and the quality life improvements.

New Map

S.C.Y. County Courthouse Strange activity reported at this Courthouse has made it difficult to conduct legal proceedings. It would seem that decades of dark activity and paranormal contact have made the courthouse a hotbed for ghost activity. Halls, offices, and courtrooms connect together to form a uniquely entwined gameplay space.

New Ghost Type

Possessor Scuttle, Hellion, and the famous Terror Sentinel provide the Possessor Ghost type with a unique playstyle. Use unique abilities and the Ultimate Possession to take over Civilians and even Busters!

New Enemy Type

Drudges From the depths of the Ghost Realm come the drudges to help! Summoned by Tobin, these helpful little entities help the ghost haunt the building and scare humans. Busters would be wise to focus on eliminating these helpers and the Ghost can use the rifts to spawn more!

New Minions Type

Trap Minions A singular minion that the ghost can plant hidden on the ground or inside of objects. This minion will spring to life when their stasis field is tripped and latch on to the unsuspecting victim!

Extreme Ghostbusters

  • Cosmetics and Gear Shells
  • Buster cosmetics and Gear Shells that harken back to the Extreme Ghostbusters Cartoon series!
  • Unlockable through various Side Hustles and Research Contracts.

New Tenure Level

  • General
    • Improved caching to reduce stuttering and hitching for PC players
    • Fixed and improved localization for various languages
    • Fixed an issue where players were seeing extremely bright VFX after joining games in progress
    • Fixed an issue where PlayStation players were having issues joining matches if the host was a PC player
    • Fixed an issue where Xbox controller prompts would sometimes appear while using a PlayStation controller on Steam
    • Fixed an issue where a cutscene could trigger while players were in the customization menu
    • Fixed an issue where players could not scroll down on the in-game news feed
    • Fixed an issue where some parts of Ray’s dialogue were missing in the Japanese version of the opening cinematic
    • Fixed an issue on PS4 & PS5 where players could get stuck on the loading screen after disconnecting from internet
    • Addressed several crashes affecting Nintendo Switch players
    • Fixed an issue preventing research contracts, gear and ghost level progression in Offline Mode for the Nintendo Switch
    • Fixed an issue that was preventing Nintendo Switch players from playing if they had over 100 friends
    • Fixed an issue where audio would not play if sound settings were set to mono for the Nintendo Switch
    • Fixed an issue where non-English and special characters appeared as question marks on the in-game Friends List for the Nintendo Switch
    • Improved performance during the second phase of the Samhain boss fight for the Nintendo Switch
    • In-game collectibles (Spores, Mold, Fungi, News Clippings and Tobin Missing Pages) should now be properly tracked when switching between Online and Offline Mode
    • Fixed an issue where players would sometimes be incorrectly rewarded with Tobin’s Missing Pages at the end of a match
    • Fixed an issue where certain contracts related to shooting ghost targets were not tracking properly
    • Fixed tracking for the “Legions” achievement while playing in Offline Mode
  • Samhain Boss Fight
    • Fixed an issue where story progress could sometimes reset while switching between offline and online mode
    • Fixed an issue where Samhain could disappear from the boss fight if trapped during the sudden death transition
    • Fixed an issue where an additional Winston could appear during a cutscene
    • Fixed an issue where Busters could use their gear during the Samhain boss fight cutscene
    • Fixed an issue where the Graduation Day cutscene would not play properly for client players
    • Fixed an issue where the Graduation Day cutscene would replay upon entering the Firehouse
    • Fixed an issue where party members could appear in the background certain cutscenes
    • Fixed an issue where certain cinematics were missing subtitles
  • Ghost Bounties
    • Reduced wait time to return to the Firehouse after completing a Ghost Bounty
    • Slightly increased chances for Hellspawn Bounties to appear at higher player levels
    • Fixed an issue where canceling a Ghost Bounty during the Ready Up countdown would cause the next private match to incorrectly place the user into the previously selected Ghost Bounty
  • Busters
    • Fixed an issue where Busters could use the V.A.D. to escape Gravebringer’s Ossifying Lance’s root effect
    • Fixed an issue where Busters could not open the pause menu while Suspended by an Overlord
    • Addressed an issue where Busters would automatically switch to the Ghost Trap while trying to fire their Particle Thrower
    • Fixed an issue where the Dual Vertical Grip attachment would sometimes automatically push or pull Ghosts
    • Fixed an issue where the Proton Pack could appear detached from the Buster’s player model
    • Fixed an issue where Busters could briefly see through the map after the intro cinematic on the Whitestone Museum map and Hudson Canyon Lodge map
    • Fixed an issue where performing an emote while switching to the R.T.V. view could cause the player to become locked into the R.T.V. view
  • Ghost
    • Fixed Winky’s Sludge Puddle VFX
    • Fixed an issue where Bashers could sometimes softlock Busters while sabotaging their packs
    • Fixed an issue where Overlords could softlock Busters by Suspending a Buster if the Buster was using the R.T.V. and had the Ecto Goggles equipped
    • Fixed an issue where the Overlord Type variants could sometimes melee attack while tethered
    • Fixed an issue where energy trails VFX would persist when Overlords used Suspend while sabotaging
    • Fixed an issue where Overlord Suspend ability VFX would sometimes be displayed abnormally
    • Fixed an issue where Ghosts could exit map bounds while being trapped
    • Fixed an issue where Ghosts could become untrappable and instantly drain trap batteries
    • Fixed an issue where Poltergeists were not regenerating extra energy while possessing electronic type possessables
    • Fixed an issue where Possessor variants could not properly move through train doors in the Galway Station map
  • Bot Improvements and Fixes
    • Various improvements and fixes to Buster bot’s mantling
    • Glutton bots will now use their unique and ultimate abilities more often
    • Fixed an issue where Buster bots in the Firehouse would sometimes float above the ground
    • Fixed an issue where Buster bots would try to calm civilians while affected by the Overlord’s Suspend status effect
    • Fixed an issue where Buster bots were not using custom loadouts in the Samhain boss fight
    • Fixed an issue where Overlord bots would not move if they spawned at certain locations in the MOROS Medical Facility map
    • Fixed an issue where Buster bots would stop moving after supporting a horrified civilian
    • Fixed an issue where Buster bots could get stuck after using the V.A.D. at certain locations in the Clock Tower Brewery map

    • Addressed and fixed various crashes for multiple platforms
    • Addressed an issue that was causing users to get stuck on a loading screen while entering the Firehouse. If this still occurs to you please let us know either via socials or Discord

    • Fixed an issue where Busters could not target rifts that were inside certain destroyed objects

    • Fixed an issue where Watcher Ghost Types were not available in Ghost Bounties

    • Fixed an issue where Overlords could place Catalysts on top of the whale in Whitestone Museum

    • Fixed an issue where turning off the setting “Software Cursor Rendering” would cause the reticle to disappear during the Possessor’s Terrorizing Possession minigame.
