- I contacted Dennys McCoy (writer of episode "The Devil to Pay") and he said the following: "Hey, Matthew. Thanks for asking us about this. We did not base any of the episode "The Devil to Pay" on the gameshow The Joker's Wild. We know they had "devils" -- but we didn't use any of that shows signature game levels. What we did was base the name of the show "You Bet Your Afterlife" on Groucho's game show, "You Bet Your Life" -- the games themselves were patterned after WHEEL OF FORTUNE and LET'S MAKE A DEAL.
