The Simpsons is an animated sitcom that centers on the Simpson family, which consists of parents Homer and Marge; and their children Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture and society, television, and the human condition.

- "Brawl in the Family" (January 6, 2002, Season 13) - Homer comments that their new social worker is "like Slimer in Ghostbusters".
- "Tales From The Public Domain" (March 17, 2002) (Season 13) - Homer reads a selection of stories to the rest of the family. At the end of the episode, he remarks, "It's not only a great play (referring to Hamlet), but also became a great movie, called Ghostbusters!". For the remainder of the episode, the entire family dances to an instrumental of Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters".
- "Boy Meets Curl" (February 14, 2010, Season 21) - Homer & Marge compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics, set in Vancouver, British Columbia. During the opening presentation, Ivan Reitman is shown and announced as Canada's "most famous director", with Bob Costas mentioning that he "brought us Ghostbusters". Teams from around the world are then announced to the tune of the Ghostbusters theme song. For example, "Who you gonna call? Albania! Who you gonna call? Algeria!" (Watch Video Clip)
- "Blazed and Confused" (November 16, 2014, Season 26) - A guy is dressed as Stay Puft at the Blazing Guy (Burning Man) festival.
- "Walking Big & Tall" (February 8, 2015, Season 26) - "Stay Puft" is one of the hateful fat words that Homer doesn't want his friends to say anymore. If you were to freeze frame it when Homer flips over the page, you can see that the words he says are actually written on the notepad pages.
- "The Old Blue Mayor She Ain't What She Used to Be" (November 12, 2017, Season 29) - Lisa tells her mother that she could be mayor because now women can do anything. Homer is okay with the concept of "women Ghostbusters", which he says is "cool", but is against a woman mayor. (reference appears at timecode 6:05)
- "Sorry Not Sorry" (December 6, 2020, Season 32) - During the end credits is a montage of the students' class projects. Wendell, an albino boy, has a display of "Famous Pale People", which includes Casper, the Michelin Man, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and the Pillsbury Doughboy.
- "Mother and Child Reunion" (May 9, 2021, Season 32) - The family goes to see fortune teller The Amazing Herzog (Werner Herzog) to learn about the future relationship between Marge and Lisa. At one point, Homer asks Herzog, "In the future, how many more Ghostbusters do they make?" Herzog replies, "Four. The gay Ghostbusters is fantastic." (Watch Video Clip)
- "Treehouse of Horror XXXIV" (November 5, 2023, Season 35) - The spookified end credit for executive producer Matt Selman is "Stay Puft Mattselman Man".
- "Homer and Her Sisters" (December 15, 2024, Season 36) - Homer Simpson and Patty & Selmer Bouvier (both voiced by Julie Kavner) decide to hang out to see if they can be friends. They watch Ghostbusters (1984) at a theater. One of the twins jokingly asks Homer if he auditioned for the part, or if his agent got a call at the part when Slimer pops his head out of the hot dog cart. (Watch Video Clip)
