They Live was a 1988 film, directed by John Carpenter, about a human named John Nada (portrayed by Roddy Piper), who discovers sunglasses that show the reality of the world that he lives in.
The P.K.E. Meter was used by alien troops as a sensor/communicator device. It can be seen towards the end of the movie after the newsroom goes into a state of panic.
- The film's biggest quote - "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubble gum." - was referenced by Peter Venkman in The Real Ghostbusters episode The Haunting of Heck House
- Cibby Danyla, who played the "Naked Lady" at the very end of the film, was the Mother at Birthday Party in Ghostbusters II.
- On cover RI-B: Amazing Stories Comics of Ghostbusters Issue #9, John Nada and many aliens using their watches.
- On page 16 of Ghostbusters: Answer The Call Issue #2, Holtzmann's fear in the Nightmare-Scape is set in a corporate office. The "obey, consume, reproduce, and conform" signs in Holtzmann's cubicle are a nod to the subliminal messages in the 1988 movie "They Live".
